As to his RAF career, have you applied for his service records. If not, details of how to do so can be found here (just one note - if you do decide to apply for his records make sure to ask for photocopies of the originals because otherwise they tend to send you a one page typed summary - people have found this next to useless for any meaningful information):

I also have a copy of "BURMA LIBERATORS" by John R.W. Gwynne-Timothy. Though the two volumes are mainly about the RCAF in Burma, it contains a lot of info on all the Liberator squadrons. If you should happen to find out which squadron your father served in, then I'll look up the info.
