Hello Alex,

I may have found the answer.

B17's flew eastwards to get to the Pacific in 41.

Photo caption in Bowman's Crowood book has B17E's 41-2459 & 41-2461 at Shallufa when they passed through in December 41 on their way to join the 19th BG in the Philippines.

A lysander is in the background of the photo but too far away to make out details.
