Re: Barbarossa & Retreat to Moscow
I've just read Artem Drabkin's book. The title "Barbarossa & The Retreat To Moscow" is miss leading if your looking for just the VVS pilot experiences during that time. The book does have the experiences of 5 pilots and a Tech during the war on the eastern front from interviews by the author. If your into what VVS pilots opinions about the fighters of the west, German and Russian makes, this book has them. Their experience relates through out the war and different parts of the front. Their opinions about the pilots of the Germans, British and their fellow VVS officers and pilots are honest. I really enjoyed the chapters on Vitaly I. Klimenko (10IAP) and Alexander F. Khaila (168IAP). As Marsyao said it's not a history book. The interviews were all after 2000 when many of them were in their 80's.
