Re: whitley Z9161 fate

Hi Jerry,

Returning from convoy patrol, diverted to Chivenor. Forced down to 100 ft due to weather and lack of fuel.

Port engine stopped first due to fuel starvation, then second engine, F/Sgt Craig put the aircraft down onto the water at 13:20 hrs 2 miles off Bude.

ASR launches P1230, P1228 and P1229 departed at 13:45 hrs on crash call to position 1' then 3' west of Bude and picked up dinghy at 16:00 hrs.

Walrus W3026 of No.276 Sqn landed at 13:40 hrs and took the six airmen off the dinghy but was unable to take off and so taxied into Bude Harbour.

Regards
Ross
