Not sure about RAF pilots, But I am a good friend with a AAF B-24 Pilot(Col.) who told me he went to an airfield and told the ground crew he was going to take the P-51 on the field for a flight.They just thought it must be ok so he did so! It never went on any log book. He told me the scariest thing he ever did was land that plane! Bob
