Re: He-111 crsh near Deinze Belgium

I believe the date of this loss was May 21, 1940, details as follows:

9./KG1 Heinkel He111. Shot down by P/O Simpson of No. 229 Squadron during sortie to Boulogne and believed belly-landed near ‘Galgenbossen’, between Elverdinge and Poperinge, 8.00 p.m. Uffz Kurt Roßhirt killed. Obergefr Otto Saueressig captured wounded. Oberlt Botho Staege, Gefr Hans-Paul Marx, and Gefr Karl-Heinz von Dahlen captured unhurt.Aircraft V4+IT a write-off.

The Bordmechanic, Otto Saueressig, was released from hospital during the German advance and was returned to his unit by July 11, 1940. The Pilot, Staege, the Beobachter, Marx, and the Bordschutze, von Dahlen, were taken to England and later transported to Canada.
