You can find Priens photo in the JVB part 2/page 245. There you can "think" the number is red, because the sun glance is on this part of the fuselage. Look on the left part of the Balkenkreuz, there it is also bright like the number. Thats why the angle of the broken fuselage is different to the sun. (I hope you understand it with my poor english. *g*) So
i think the number is black and not red, and Priens is wrong. ;-)
Look on the photo below on page 245, there it is clear to see that the color of the Balkenkreuz and the tactical number is different.
