Re: A true stroy and a wonderful story
I've had dinner with Brown and Stigler. Franz has been a family friend since 1942, when he flew with my uncle in Africa. Having said that, there is some controversy about the details of the B-17 incident, not the least of which is the motivation for a Jagdflieger to spare such a target, given the war situation at the time. Many frankly doubt the entire story. Then there is the situation in Africa regarding Erwin Sawallisch and the faking of claims, and subsequent strange demise of Sawallisch. I believe Stigler was a member of this Schwarm.
