Impossible to tell. 'B' Flight of No. 41 Squadron were attacked by superior numbers of Messerschmitt Bf109Es and there was also 'very accurate' AA fire so it's anyone's guess. Certainly, Hood's wingman 'Wally' Wallens has recorded that 'in the melee that followed, 'Robin' and Terry were believed to have collided' though I'm not aware of anyone having witnessed the fact.
