Now at the end of the day who is to know whether an unseen 109 was behind all of them and Thompson assumed it was an accident... so I can't say for sure that Vigna was NOT shot down.
This is the situation in which Thompson accidently shot down Peters..when he crossed between Thompson and the 109 being chased - realized what he had done and the 109 got away.

I am certain I have heard the story of a victorious German airman landing at Nasielsk and visiting the crashsite, but as you know we cannot be certain of anything. The fact is that there are no known German claims for Mustangs. I will ask Mike Fly to have a closer look.
