15.(span)/JG 51

Hi Alex

There were actually five separate units that arrived from Spain.

1. Escuadrilla Azul known as 15.(span)/JG 27: 17 pilots, flew from 24 September 1941 to 7 April 1942, claimed 14 victories and lost four men
2. Escuadrilla Azul known as 15.(span)/JG 51: 19 pilots, flew from 21 June 1942 to November 1942, claimed 13 victories and lost three men killed and one wounded
3. Escuadrilla Azul known as 15.(span)/JG 51: 19 pilots, flew from 30 November 1942 to June 1943, claimed 62 victories and lost six men
4. Escuadrilla Azul known as 15.(span)/JG 51: 20 pilots, flew from July 1943 to 23 February 1944, claimed 74 victories and lost seven men killed and three wounded
5. Escuadrilla Azul known as 15.(span)/JG 51: 20 pilots, flew from February 1944 to March 1944, claimed no victories and lost one man

Some of their fighters had the "Vista Suerte y al Toro" insignia of the Patrulla Azul painted on the cowling from photographs that I have seen.

I hope that this helps.

Horrido!

Leo
