Took off 1708 hrs Wickenby. Hit by flak at 22,000 feet over the target area, which knocked out all four engines. All baled out, but Sgt Auty's parachute became entangled with the tailplane and he was dragged down to his death. He is commemorated of panel 224 of the Runnymede Memorial.
