JU 188 crashed near Saint Lo circa 10 june 1944

Dear All

At night , a JU188 equipped with BMW801 G engines and flames dampfer, crashed at Chaignes near Saint Lo in Normandy . The crash date was circa 10 june 1944 .

Traces of small bullets have been found in the engine (303 caliber) , so it might have been shot down my an English nightfighter .

The engine was not running when the aircraft crashed , it could also have fallen appart as the propeller blades are not bent (one has a bullet hole in it ) .

Any information on the suject is wellcome.

The standard camouflage schme for a bomber (RLM71 and RLM70) was oversprauyed by a light colour (RLM76 RLM65 or RLM02) it is difficult to determine preciselly before the remaining parts of the engine cowling being restores and washed.

Enclose a photo ot he engine itself , washed, note the flame dampfer .Now the engine is on display in a samll museum at Duclair in Normandy 30 km west Rouen .

All the best

Many thanks for your help
