Congratulations to all involved in a very nice piece of collaborative research which I have been following with great interest. I will see to it that P/O Linney’s experiences on May 23, 1940, are added to my loss lists pending future reprint of The Battle of France Then & Now – not forgetting Louis Strange’s part in the story. Well done guys.

The order for No.242 Squadron to send a flight to France on May 13, 1940, was cancelled. Instead, according to Hugh Halliday’s excellent account, 242 Squadron The Canadian Years (1981), four pilots were detached to units already in France leaving Manston on May 14. Six aircraft and pilots of ‘A’ Flight No.242 Squadron were ordered to France two days later.
