There's a photo on page 181 of Luftwaffe Colours: Stuka Vol.2 - Luftwaffe Ju87 dive-bomber units 1942-1945 (Classic Colours) by Peter C Smith showing a Junkers Ju87D-5 with a very similar, if not identical, container under each underwing bomb rack, complete with caps fitted. The caption states they were 'universal containers'. In answer to your other question, yes, the exhaust outlets on the machne in your selection were covered with flame dampers.
