Re: 17/5/41 Bf110s and Ju52s on Greek airfields
Byron and Andreas,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I really appreciate it. I guess that since I do not know the actual locations of these fields/towns, I will ask my granddaughter in Athens if she can pinpoint the towns for me.
Of course I am puzzled as I mentioned in my story, we flew at sea level to Kalamaki and strafed losing one pilot. At our reunions we attempted to locate the field that the Germans were using. By virtue of the headings and distance, we concluded the field was on Salamis. So now we are back to the beginning...with no field on Salamis we are confused as to how we flew in an east to south-east heading for a couple minutes and arrived at Kalamaki?? Do either of you gentlemen know of a reference that would pinpoint fields west of Athens? Again I thank you for your excellent assistance.
Byron, your English is great and completely understandable. I wish I had paid more attention when I was taking German in school!
Cordially, Art Fiedler
