Re: Strange Me 210 WNr.

A long, long time ago, I read of the organization of W.Nrs. into 3 parts: The first 3 numbers were the aircraft type, the 2nd two numbers were the model number (if I remember correctly), and the third set of numbers were the basic serial number of the aircraft. The Me 210s you mention would appear to fit into this category: eg. 210.01.10032. Later, I notice that Me 410s had just the first and third groups of numbers on their fins, so 41010016, an early Me 410, which was found by the Allies at war's end with that number on its fin.

But, the 10,000 series of W.Nrs. is in the Me 410 range, not the Me 210 range, so I just can't give a definitive answer to your problem.

A lot of problems go back to the fiddling with Me 210 numbers when they were re-engineered with the longer tail. And, Mtt always considered the Me 410A to be a Me 210 conversion, because it still contained parts of the Me 210 that had been put into storage when Me 210 production was suspended. Still in 1943 I have seen Mtt production comments stating that Me 210s built because the Me 410s weren't (lack of DB 603s?) were to be counted as Me 410 production. But no W.Nrs. mentioned. So, this whole thing can be very confusing.

All the best,
George

PS. It was Me 410 10259, and not 110259, that accidently landed at Monte Corvino airfield on 27 Nov 43, and was captured. But, there was also an Me 210 259 that received 10% damage due to a "technical failure," on 17 Jun 43.
