For what it is worth, I've spent the better part of a year researching the history of II/KG 40, II/KG 100 and III/KG 100. Based on that research, I can conclude that deZeng and Stankey did a spectacular job. Their presentation of information on KG 40 and KG 100 is spot on. My recommendation is that you start with their material and work from there.
