Re: Luftwaffe losses in the Med 21-22/12/1942

The following is from Larry deZeng’s notes, with losses noted for this time period:

I./KG 26

20.12.42: 1.St. He 111H—6 (1H+GH) missing between Catania and Tripoli, 100%, 4 MLA.
22.12.42: 2 3.St. He 11IH—6s (1H+BL,NL) FTR from ops — no details, 100%, 4 MIA.

II./KG 26

Apparently at Grossetto.

III./KG 26

19.12.42: Ju 88A—4 (1T+AD) FTR and believed shot down by a fighter, 100%, Gruko Maj. Kayser + 3 MIA.
26.12.42: 8.St. Ju 88A—4 (1T+CS) FTR from attack on Algiers, 100%, 4 MIA.

I./KG 30

in Norway.

II./KG 30

26.12.42: 4.St. Ju 88A-4 (4D+FM) shot down by a fighter over Maison-Blanche airfield in Algeria -pilot rescued, 1 KIA and 2 MIA (from Loss Reports).

III./KG 30

in Norway and Holland.

KG 60:

20.12.42: flew an evening raid on Bone harbor with 6 Ju 88s. (PRO AIR 40/1995).
20.12.42: (Süd) — a Ju 88A—4 “Trop” (10%) and a Ju 88A—14 (10%) both shot up by Allied fighters over Bone/Algeria and slightly damaged.
23.12.42: attacked a convoy with 6 Ju 88s, but no results reported. (PRO AIR 40/1995).


NOTE: these losses are not comprehensive, since it was the unit activities were what we were trying to discern. Losses that were repetitive or unrevealing were ignored.
