Re: Photos 7-12

Yes, I belive they are Fiat G 50, from the location of the gear to the wings. The CR 42 did not have mass counterbalance on the ailerons.

The wing behind would be the top side of a wing and the one in front is the underside.

Note the black St Andrew cross on the underside of the wing. This was used early on in North Africa, Libyan sector as IFF for anti-aircraft units on the ground. It appears the crosses were superseded by white fuselage bands.

The date of 1943 would seem to indicate that these aircraft had been in derelict condition for quite some time.

Given the markings my quick research indicates that these may be aircraft of 2 Gruppo CT, Squadriglie 150, 151, 152. It appear that the G. 50 arrived at Castelbenito 21 to 23 December 1940. In "Courage Alone", it is noted that the aircraft immediately were affected by sand in the engines.

So it might be possible these aircraft were sitting under those trees for a couple of years.

...and a big thanks to Ed for finding more diamonds in the rough.
