I believe the plane in question is me109 g-1, wnr. 14120. Pilot: Feldwebel Fritz Hüllenhütter. He belonged to the 4th Gruppe in Jagdgeschwader 5, og was stationed at Värnes-Trondheim. Due to engine trouble, he had to ditch his plane in the fjord outside the village of Orsand, on the northern shore of the Frosta penisula, on the 26th of february 1943. Hüllenhütter was rescued by locals.


His plane was raised in cooperation with british divers in the summer of -74, and brought to england. I was in contact with one of the curators of the museum a while ago, and was informed that the plane was in such a bad shape that it was scrapped. Howeve, unverified rumours says that parts of the plane was sold to a collector.


Hüllenhütter didnt survived the war. After the accident, he was tranferred to the 2nd Staffel of jg5, and on the 29th of may he once again ditched outside Herdla, near Bergen. He managed to get into the dingy, and was rescued by soldiers from a nearby coastal battery.

Then - on the 7th of october 1943, luck ran out for poor Hüllenhütter. For third time this year he ditched, this time near the Lister (Lista) airfield. He was rescued, but died shortly afterwards.



Fritz Hüllenhütter was born 6. juyi 1922 in Wiesbaden, and is buried on the german cemetery at Alfaset in Oslo
