Re: Hurricane in France

Very nice Hurricane photo.

615 Sqn in Battle of France - May 1940

Looked through the Hurricane serials, unfortunately the serial is not totally clear there does not seem to be any P2??? attributed to 615 Sqn in France. Not surprising as dozens in P2??? series were lost in France and were not listed to squadrons. Any thoughts on serial?

Possibility though that it is the Hurricane of F/Lt J G Sanders of 615Sqn who took off at 09.30 on 17th May 1940. Between Charleroi and Wavre, Sanders shot down a Ju88 L1+AR of 7/LG1 which crashed at Fines-les-Raches. Seems probable Sanders Hurricane was hit by return fire and force landed near Lille. Returned to unit.

This was the only 615Sqn belly landing listing I could find. Very nice historic photo if proved correct.

Mark
