Re: First RAF AI night "kill"
You may be interested in Ian White's excellent "The History of Air Intercept Radar and the British Night Fighter", Pen & Sword, 1 8441 5532-3. Although mainly devoted to the history and development of the radar, it has a lot to say about the aircraft and their operations. It includes a sizable excerpt from Ashfield's report. White writes that the identity of the bomber has not been properly established (he does mention 2/KG3), nor the final fate of the crew. Which strongly suggests that they were not rescued by the British!
