Re: Can anyone identify these aircraft?
Hi, Stig...
The 'WL' (Wermacht Luft) coding was used from 1 January until 24 October, 1939. It was used to denote military aircraft used for training purposes during this brief period, prior to which all civil and second-line military machines had used the nationality code 'D' as a prefix to their registration code. After the change in coding, 'D' was reserved for exclusive use on civil machines.
There were some exceptions to the use of 'WL' in relation to small aircraft with restricted fuselage space, and other types, such as armed trainers, were seen in operational use during the Polish campaign with the 'WL' coding.
