Re: Macchi C. 205V Veltro in II./JG 77
Hi,
they used them from september 1943 (due to lack of Messerschmitt 109 they got on 10.09.43 order to move to Isola San Antonio by Padua to switch on MC-205). On 28 september first lost with MC-205 occured - 6/JG77 Unf.Hans-G.Soltmann KIA Lonate MC-205 W.Nr. 92215, than on 05.10.43 Fw.Erhard Philipp KIA Lonate MC-205 W.Nr.?.On 07.10.43 Unf.Otto Bremser WIA Brusto-Arizio Mc 205 W.Nr. 92213. From 06.11.43 the unit was again in comat. The first combat flight was conducted on 08.11.43 and the MC-205`s fougt (without results) with 50 B-17. On 09.11.43 the unit claimed first victory with MC-205: 5/JG77 Olt.Hrdlicka (37) P-38 at 12.05. On 11.11.43 Unf.Ullrich from 6/JG77 claimed one B-24 at 12.58. On 01.12.43 Unf.Funke (3) from 6/JG77 one P-38 at 13.30. On 13.12.43 Luftwaffe decided that the unit will flying the Bf109`s again. On 30.12.43 the unit conducted their last operational flight with this plane.
