Re: P38 losses on 16th September 1944; 394 FS

Hello Karl-Heinz,

on 16 September 1944, 34 P-38 of the 370th FG took off at 16:30 and landed at 19:25. According to the Combat Report, they were attacked near Aacken by 50 Me-109/FW-190 at about 9000 feet. The Americans of the 401st FS claimed 3 FW-190 (2 FW-190 by 2/Lt. James K. Kunkle and 1 FW-190 by Capt. Ernest T. Cragg) for the loss of the P-38 of Lt. James Kunkle who, despite being wounded, managed to bail out and return to base.

Regards
Marco
