Thanks for the date update. If you ever find something thorough on Italy in Spain, please let me know.
In the meantime I have tried to "verify" Stabile's other eight victories, and while his first is mentioned by Shores in his Malta, the Hurricane years, I also believe it is possible to "see" his involvement in North Africa with his scoring on 12/12, 14/2, 25/5 and 27/5. See Shores Fighters over the Desert. There are even shoot downs which Shores were unable to link to any German claim at the time, but without knowing full Italian claim details any specific Stabile victories are hard to confirm.
However his claim on 10.7.42 is worse since by that time his unit was back on mainland Italy. Any idea?
