From Bracknell to the National Archives isn't so far and if you can spare a day to visit and sit at a microfilm reader (headache thrown in free of charge), you could check this out fairly easily. If the relevant Operations Record Books (file series AIR27) for those Squadrons are intact, then there's usually a schedule of all the aircraft flying each day. With Spits this normally gives the mark but failing that, the serial number is always there (in my experience at least) and you could cross check from those.

I wouldn't rule out a Squadron flying a mixture during the changeover, at least I've seen Squadrons in the Med with a mix of V's and IX's or VIII's and IX's.
