Hi Paul

Here are the claims made by Luftwaffe pilots on that date. If you could narrow down at around what time did your guy get shot down you may be able to determine which unit he was involved in combat with. It might be rather difficult to narrow down the specific pilot.

III./JG 27

Oberleutnant Walter Adolph: Hurricane Isle of Wight at 18:25
Feldwebel Georg Lehmann: Hurricane Isle of Wight at 18:30
Feldwebel Franz Blazytko: Hurricane Isle of Wight at 18:30
Leutnant Erbo Graf von Kageneck: Hurricane Isle of Wight at 18:35
Leutnant Erbo Graf von Kageneck: Hurricane Isle of Wight at 18:40

I./JG 51

Feldwebel Jakob Schmitt: Spitfire south of Dover at 18:19
Hauptmann Ernst Wiggers: Spitfire Dover at 17:12

III./JG 51

Hauptmann Hannes Trautloft: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:42
Oberleutnant Otto Kath: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:43
Leutnant Werner Pichon-Kalau v. Hofe: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:43
Leutnant Herbert Wehnelt: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:44
Leutnant Werner Pichon-Kalau von Hofe: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:45
Feldwebel Berhard Lausch: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:45
Leutnant Werner Pichon-Kalau von Hofe: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:46

Oberleutnant Walter Oesau: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:50
Leutnant Gottfried Schlitzer: Defiant south of Folkestone at 13:50
Unteroffizier Maximilian Mayerl: Spitfire 10 km. south of Dover at 13:52
Oberleutnant Walter Oesau: Hurricane south of Dover at 13:55
