Re: Stalag IIID Berlin
Stalag III D
*Established 14 August 1940 on Landweg/Ecke Osdorferstraße in Berlin-Lichterfelde (approximately 1 km from the Lichterfelde-Süd S-Bahn). The commander and camp offices (Kommandantur) were later located at Belle-Alliancestraße 106-107 in Kreuzberg (Berlin SW 61). The camp consisted exclusively of prisoners of war, all of whom were allocated to sub-camps (Zweiglager) and work details (Arbeitskommandos). Camp medical needs were provided by Reservelazarett (reserve hospital) 119 Neuköln and 128 Bieldorf. Except as noted below, Stalag III D remained in existence until the end of the war. The camp’s prisoners were from Belgium, Great Britain, France, Yugoslavia, Soviet Union, Poland, USA, Italy and Czechoslovakia. The camp’s maximum capacity was 58,000.
