The crash of Bf109E of Oblt. Hubertus Fr Von Holtey, StaKap of 5./JG26
Hello,
I'm hoping that someone who reads this board can help our EOE WG with this one. On May 11, 1940, the StaKap, of 5./JG26, Oblt. Hubertus Fr Von Holtey was SD and POW by an AA Battery near De Klomp, the Netherlands. The Brongers list of Luftwaffe losses in the Netherlands says that his plane was "Black 14," but members of the WG have traced that back to the source, a local history by Van de Weerd & Crebolder published in 2004 in Dutch. To my disappointment, it appears that to illustrate their account, the authors used a photo of a Bf109E,"Black 14," which turns out to clearly be in the markings of an a/c of 2./JG21, a well-known aircraft that has been widely published (and even profiled) before.
So, I'm back to square one on this one. Other photos from this period for 5./JG26 make it highly likely that von Holtey was flying "Black 1+-". Does anyone have any other sources of info on v. Holtey's loss, and even more importantly, any photos of this plane?
Thanks,
