Re: Do 17 of 3./KG 76 down in France June 1940
Paul,
There is one more line of evidence that suggests that this is F1+GL. I have quite clear photos of F1+CL as a FL, completely intact Do17z. One of the strong candidates for that one was another 3 Staffel loss the next day, 4 June. There are other possibilities for that one, but after looking closely at Paul's photo, I'm quite convinced that Rudi's photo, for which we have an identical copy from another EOE Working Group member, shows the code as being F1+GL. If anyone is aware of any other views of this one, I'd appreciate knowing about it.
For all of the many board readers who have are awaiting word, my serious cancer surgery yesterday went spectacularly well. The top facial reconstrutive team in this part of the US worked on the golf-ball sized tumor for six hours under a microscope to separate this cancer from my main taciall nerve which they thought that they would have to sacrifice. They were successful against their pre-surgery predictions, and after only one night in the Intesive Care hospital unit, I'm home now (with a drain tube still affixed to my face) and back at work, although I'm still facing extensive chemo and radiation therapy. I've got a 90% probbilty of a full cure from this cancer, which is about as good as it gets at 65 years old.
Its hard to slow down from something I love to do so much, but my wife has threatened to kill me if I don't slow down long enough for this five-inch long cut along my jaw to heal. So, I guess that there is more than one way to die from cancer. To any of you with whom I'm tardy with my correspondence, please bear with me. This had to take priority.
Thanks for all who have offered the many kind expressions of support and good wishes that I have received. It is appreciated.
Regards,
Larry
