(RE, DKG). 01.10.38 entered the Luftwaffe. 03.39 began schooling: attended Aufklärungsschule at Grossenhain, Blindflugschule at Neuburg-Donau, Zerstörerschule 2 at Memmingen, JFS 2 at Schleissheim and Nachtjadgschule at Stuttgart-Echterdingen. 30.10.39 received pilot’s licence. c.11.39 attended FFS C at Alt- Lönnewitz. 09.41 finished schooling. 01.10.41 Lt. trf II./NJG 1. 01.42 trf to 4./NJG 2. 01.04.42 promo to Oblt. 06.42 in IV./NJG 1. 07.10.42 with 11./NJG 1. 23.11.42 began training with Nachtjagdschule 1. 19.05.43 trf to 10./NJG 1. 01.09.43 Oblt., appt Staka 10./NJG 1 (to 01.03.44). 04.10.43 appt Staka Luftbeobachter-Erprobungstaffel of I./NJG 1. 02.12.43 returned to 10./NJG 1. 28.02.44 Oblt., awarded the Ehrenpokal. 01.03.44 appt Staka 11./NJG 1 (to 03.11.44). 29.03.44 Oblt., awarded DKG, 10./NJG 1. 01.06.44 in IV./NJG 1, promo to Hptm. 27.07.44 Oblt., Staka 11./NJG 1, awarded Ritterkreuz. 04.11.44 Hptm., appt Kdr. Credited with 204 combat missions and 51 air victories, all but 4 at night. 1946-57 studied law and became a sales representative for a textile factory. 08.57 joined the Bundesluftwaffe with the rank of Hauptmann. He served 17 years rising to the rank of Oberstleutnant. 1972 retired. He has lived in Wangen since 1980.
