Re: Bmw 801 Ts, Th, Tj
Hey Sheflin!
F66 is a Luftwaffe supply code for an FW-190 power egg.
The "F" code is not definative for the type of engine installed. Some F codes do correspond to a particular engine type, for example, F617 denotes a BMW801TU power egg.
The F66 power egg originally denotes a cowling setup for the MG17's. The F600 for the MG131. The F66 cowling was modified in early 1944 when the BMW801TH was found to require slightly different paneling. You can find many BMW801D2's, 801D2Q's, and BMW801TH's in the F66 power egg.
The BMW 801TH was directed to use the F66 power egg in early 1943 for fighters, F69 for Jaborei, and the F602 for Schlachtflugzeug.
The 12 bladed Lufterrad (039 ) was ordered to replace the 14 bladed Lufterrad (035) on all 801 series installations in late 1944. In the BMW801TH and TS series the cylinder baffeling was changed to increase pressure around the cylinders to gain the cooling needed to use the 039 Lufterrad.
All the best,
Crumpp
