Unfortunately we have two fellows in our files by this name and their data may be mixed up. Here’s what we have and please interpret it at your own risk. Maybe someone out there can sort this out and clarify the situation.



WIENHUSEN, Franz. 20.07.43 Hptm. and Staka 5./JG 5, KIA shot down by a Russian a/c and crashed SE of Vardø/Norway.

WIENHUSEN, Franz-Josef. 1934 entered the Kriegsmarine. 1935 trf to the Luftwaffe. 08.40 flight training completed with FFS A/B 118. 1940 trf to 2./JFS 4 (to 28.02.41). 01.07.41 Lt., appt Staka 3./JG 77 (to 11.41). 09.11.41 ditched at sea vic Kvasshem/45 km S of Stavanger due to engine problems. 01.01.42 Oblt., Staka 3./JG 5. 25.01.42 Oblt., appt Staka 3./JG 5 (to 11.42). 21.03.42 appt Staka 5./JG 5. 11.42 appt Staka 5./JG 5 (to 31.05.44). 01.12.42 promo to Hptm. 01.44 acting Staka 4./JG 5. 25.02.44 Hptm., appt Staka 4./JGr. Ost (to 20.08.44). 01.09.44 Hptm., appt Kdr. II./JG 5 (to 10.44). 20.10.44 Hptm., appt Kdr. IV./JG 4 (to 03.12.44). 03.12.44 KIA – shot down by AA fire during a low-level close support mission in the Aachen area. Credited with c.12 air victories.
