Re: 30 april 1945 SG9

Hi RT

Could this may have been 130 and/or 350 Squadrons?

The 350 Squadron ORB states, "At 11.00 one section of three met about 20 FW 190 apparently trying to land on a landing strip south of Lake Schwerin and F/O Watkins shot down two of them plus one already taxying on the runway. F/LT Bangerter got two as well and F/Sgt Gigot one. We made several more patrols but got no joy for the day, the weather was duff. This was a very good day for the wing, 17 huns altogether." (TNA AIR 27/1746)

However, I suggest you contact Serge Bonge (of this Forum) as he may be able to provide more information on this day, and visit his website at http://www.350sqn.be/

130 Squadron also claimed the destruction of a lone FW190 near Schwerin Lake (1/2 each to Flt. Lt. Ponsford & Plt. Off. Edwards) at 11:25, followed the sighting five mins. later of 15 FW190s at zero feet in a landing circuit to come in at an airfield 11 miles SSE of Schwerin. They claimed four destroyed, 2&1/2 to Flt. Lt. Ponsford and 1&1/2 to Plt. Off. Edwards.

41 Squadron spent the day operating in the Lauenberg area, and only made claims in that area.

Hope this helps

Regards
Steve
