As co-author of the book, you would have seen the actual BC records of individual losses, but I am still wondering if both the statistics of 18 and 23 are wrong and if Middlebrook did his own math in calculating the 7.4% loss out of 244 Lancasters which translates to 18 bombers lost. In other words, was the mistake on the part of Middlebrook or his publisher or was the mistake in the records which Middlebrook consulted?
