Luftwaffe Archives and Records Group (LWAG) issues (hopefully) resolved

Dear All,

It has been quite a struggle. The LWAG site was migrated to a new server last night and, as far as I can tell, everything is now functioning as it should.

The latest issue revolved around prospective members not being able to get their registrations completed. At first, I thought the issue was due to increased spam control at various e-mail services, causing the site's confirming e-mail to be treated as spam or, worse, completely blocked. To some degree, this was actually true, but the reason for it wasn't. The site had resided on 24hostingnow for many years, but that company apparently was dying a slow death and earlier this year cut out all tech support. If a server is not properly maintained, it can send out enormous amounts of spam and the sites that monitor for this then raise a red flag that the server is a spamming server. ISP's will then, to varying degrees, react, and thus we found ourselves with a registration problem.

Last night my son was kind enough to move the site to a new server company, HostGator, which is recommended by vBulletin-FAQ, it being 1 of 2 check rated companies.

I have alerted those that have tried to register, but failed, that the issue is resolved and, if they would like to, to try to register again.

It has been a learning situation for me. Perhaps my experience will be of some help to others.

Regards,
Richard
