The part of Kurowski's book about getting shot down matches what I read in Khazonov's book. Khazonov describes that a Bf109 was shot down that date and the pilot parachuted (confirmed by VVS documents) and that the pilot evaded the 49th Army by running into the forest. Prien's JFV gives the aircraft but no pilot but it was the 12. Staffel which Baer was in at the time. The entire dogfight story before getting shot down looks a little stretched.
