Hi Chris

According to Air Brit serials:

V8322: 603 Sqn. Missing on Night Patrol, presumed ditched. 2/5/43

T3426: 252/143/OADU/Middle East. SOC 6/12/41

T4625: 604/ 51OTU, SOC 12/3/44

Vol 2 of "The Greatest Squadron of them all" by Ross, Blanche and Simpson, p199, gives this for 603 Sqn on 2/5/43:

On 2 May 1943 three aircraft were tasked to give last light cover to convoy Liquid heading fpr Tripoli. FO F Scantlebury and Flt Sgt BG James in aircraft E failed to return, probably shot down by enemy fighters as intelligence had indicated that there were ten enemy aircraft in the vicinity. No trace of the crew was ever found and they were classified 'missing in action believed killed'

Kind regards

Niall
