Re: Photos 8-1-05

Greetings,

Lending credence (but not without controversy) to the idea that this is Eberhard von Boremski, is the caption, which translates "Birthday and first victory." Von Boremski's was born on 24.9.14, and his 3rd victory (his first during the Battle of Britain) was on 24.9.40. As this was his 3rd not 1st victory, that does raise some questions, but I think that overall the caption lends weight to the idea that this is probably him.

Note also that this may not have been his regular a/c, as he had been with the unit since at least May, 1940, and an earlier "Yellow 12" was lost by the Staffel when Uffz. Wilhelm Kaiser crash-landed one in England on 24.8.40. Obviously Kaiser could have been flying von Boremski's regular a/c that day, or vB could have switched to a newer replacement "Yellow 12" a/c after that happened. On the date of the photo, probably 24.9.40, he could have also been flying another aircraft other than his own. An excellent photo, nevertheless. Good work Don P. and Robert S.

Cheers,

Larry Hickey
