The CWGC records that his unit was 156 Maintenance Unit. This was based in Algeria.

The Scottish National War Memorial records that his theatre of death was RAF NAAF (ie Northwest African Air Forces).

However, he couldn't have died overseas because the policy was not to repatriate the dead so a possible scenario is that he was evacuated to the UK in a serious condition from injury or disease and died in a Bristol hospital. The CWGC record mentions that there were military hospitals in Bristol in both wars and it seems likely that those buried in that particular plot died in hospital. The death certificate will give the cause of death.
