You are right. 2nd Lt. Pitts came down in allied territory in Luxembourg. His crash-location is Hupperdingen, local district "Knupp", according to the most serious sources from there.
Those circumstances may explain, why no MACR was compiled.
Lt. Col. Schilling was right in his aereal positioning, giving an appx. position as Speicher and Herforst. The distance from Lt. Col. suspected position to 2nd Lt. Pitts crash-location is only about 47 km WNW.
2nd Lt. Pitts remains are now resting at Henry-Chapelle Permanent Cemetary in Belgium.
