Re: Alois Bautz

Thank you for your reply Frans A.

I think we can rule out Luftdienstkommando 61. Here is the loss report: Heinkel He111E (1315). Transport flight. Engine fire and crashed attempting force-landing 3 Km north of Le Bourget, France. Fw. Hans Schmidt (FF), Gefr. Heinrich Nisse (Bw), Gefr. Horst Marschall (Bm) killed. Gefr. Erich Otekal (Bf) injured. Aircraft 90% damaged.

1/Kü.Fl.Gr.406.
Dornier Do26D (0795). Crashed during its first launch from the catapult ship 'Friesenland' off the coast of Brest, France, at night. Lt. Otto Emmerich (FF), Oblt. zur See Helmuth Groos (B), Fw. Erich Gruber (Bf), Fw. Heinz Hingst (Bm), Fw. Heinz Kantenberg (Bm) killed. Stab Fw. Christian Graf (Bf) missing. Aircraft P5+EH lost.

And there are 2 more possibilities:

5/KG3.
Dornier Do17Z (2894). Sortie to England. Crashed in the Channel 1.5 miles off Folkestone, Kent, 9.30am. Oblt. Bodo Buttker (FF), Fw. Horst Lemke (B), Obgefr. Erwin Herbert (Bf) and Gefr. Fritz Otte (Bs) all missing. Aircraft 5K+FN lost. Crew of 4 all named. (Not sure you could get a 5 crew man in a Dornier?), so probably not this one.

1/KG1.
Heinkel He111H (6897). Sortie to London. Shot down by AA fire and crashed at Palmtree Cross Roads, Woodnesborough, Kent, 8.50pm. Fw. Emil Mikeska (B), Uffz. Heinz Wendtland (Bf), Fw. Ludwig Mügge (Bm) killed. Lt. Hans-Georg Pramesberg (FF) missing. Aircraft V4+JH a write-off. This could be the other likely possibility. The Heinkel could carry 5 crew members, but only 4 are officially named. The 3 killed are now buried at Cannock Chase, but a 4th (and maybe a 5th?) remains missing. Also, I believe a Kriegsberichter could also double as a gunner? (could be wrong).
