Re: Searching for info on Erich Haindl + 27.04.1945

Hello Guys,

AFAIK Luftwaffe officially did not have something like a "Panzerjagdstaffel" in 1944/1945 and I have never seen this designation in connection with a Schlachtgeschwader. The Staffeln with rockets were called like 7.(PzBl)/SG 77 or something very similar to this.

This leads me to something completely different:
There were "Panzerfauststaffeln 1 to 11", equipped with Bücker Bü 181 and Panzerfaust attached to their wings. All of them were established in early April 1945 and pilots mostly were former flying-instructors.
5. Panzerfauststaffel was established at Gablingen, probably from personal of FFS A 5 and it was operational against US-forces crossing the Danube in late April 1945. It surrendered at Berg bei Söchtenau 10 kilometers NE of Rosenheim on 5th May 1945. Perhaps Haindl, a former flight-instructor, was a member of this Staffel.

Cheers

Carl
