Re: Jv44 Platzschutzstaffel air to air combat ?

Hi Pete

There is no combat report against P 51´s. Understandable because all Dora Platzschutz Pilots lost their flightbooks during the surrender. ( or destroyed it ). Iam researching this group since 6 years and iam aware of only one Platzschutz Victory.

It appears that Jagdverband 44's last victory may have been scored by Hptm. Faber while flying "Rote 13" (Fw 190 D-9, ), who claimed a P-47 shot down over Bad Aibling while on a flight to pick up some whiskey!. This victory is preported to have occurred on May 4th 1945..."

Source: History, Camouflage, and Markings of JV 44 and JG 6 Fw 190 D-9s, Halcraft Printing, First Impression, March 1993, Halifax Canada

I did a research on that case and here is the result:

Date:04.05.1945;
Report number : 44-33575,
aircraft: P-47D-30-RA;
MARC 14355;
Unit : 406th FG 513th FS; code 4P-?
Crashsite: Near Bad Aibling / Bavaria

I hope it is a help

Best Regards

Klaus
