What you quote is the manufacturer's construction number which is not quite the same as a military (Air Force) serial number, ie the military registration if you like.
During the period we are interested in here, I would say only Germany, Russia and Japan used their manufacturers own numbers as references. All other nations at war used their own specifically invented system.
This Yak-9M from Bulgaria is still using their pre-war/wartime system. I have no records regarding exactly which Yaks they received and it is interesting to see they used in this case a corruption of the actual manufacturer's number. Usually Bulgaria used digits from 1 and up (ie in this case I would have guessed 7001 and up).
Do you have other such manufacturer's numbers for Bulgaria?
