The clue is in the word “Academic” in the publisher’s name (Bloomsbury also own Osprey, whose books tend to be a bit cheaper!). High pricing seems common with books that are (I’d imagine) directed at a relatively small number of university libraries rather than the mass market. Pity, because it sounds interesting. The upside is that it may be based on a PhD thesis and universities often put those online either for all-comers or for registered readers of their libraries.
