German sources III./ JG 54
Hello,
I am trying to locate the area in France my Great Uncle may have landed after bailing out on order from his Lancaster bomber ("H" PB 140) on date 6/08/1944.
W/O Donald Joseph LESTER, RAAF, 425173
Reports state:
Target successfully bombed and upon return aircraft was attacked by a formation of 9 out of 18 F.W.190s. Two concentrated on the aircraft which resulted in major damage.
Order to bail out given which LESTER did.
Upon receiving further information, Pilot J.A. KELLY, RAF, 150710 cancelled the order to bail out and crash landed at Ford, UK. All crew on board survived.
LESTER's parachute was seen to open at position 49.0 N. 0210 E.
I am trying to get a better understanding of the attack please.
Some reports suggest LESTER would have come down in the water off Jersey and drowned however others say he would have come down without attack
in Pontoise.
Any tips or leads to follow up most welcome please.
Thank you,
Tammy
