Who bombed Insterburg on 27 July 1944 ?
Several websites claimed that Insterbug, in East Prussia, was heavily bombed by the RAF on 27 July 1944.
It was not the case, no RAF aircraft flew to this area on either night (26-27 or 27-28). By the way I has not found yet on which night Insterburg was bombed.
Nachjad claim lists show many claims by NJG 100 and 102 on both nights... against Soviet bombers. They scored respectively 9 and 3 claims (but maybe not all over East Prussia).
At this stage of the war, the Soviet air force was able to mount heavy air attacks on German towns, but I think even in East Prussia, any night attack was supposed to be from the RAF.
Can anyone give me details from the Soviet point of view on this raid ? Thanks in advance
